Friday Update:
I apologize for the lack of information lately. My sister has been in the hospital in Chicago and I've been with her. As I know each of you will agree, family always comes first!

To catch up, the majority of our time has been spent working on our class business. We are planning to bring a synthetic ice rink to Vandalia the weekend of February 5th-6th, 2021. The students decided it was important to bring something fun for people in our communities who are struggling with COVID fatigue. The group agreed that providing a distraction that is safe is as important as making a sizable profit. They want to be able to have funds to start their individual businesses as well as do some type of philanthropy afterwards but creating a substantial profit is not their #1 goal. The rink rental is a little pricey but I believe they will pull it off.

Zurcher Tire was a business they have visited in the past two weeks. Owner Roger Cornelius and manager Andrea Berry provided interesting information about a business most didn't know existed in Vandalia.

The class also met via Google Meets with JoAnn May from the Small Business Association with regards to completing a business plan. Thanks to her guidance, we have the class business plan almost finished (with the exception of the financial page) and will be ready to present to our board in the near future.

Mike Radliff was with the class for two days guiding the financial planning for the class business and Beth Kern filled in the other days I missed. I am thankful for board members who allow me to be where I need to be.

A class conference call was held on Wednesday with the owner of D.I.Y. Rentals in Terre Haute, IN. There are a few minor issues to work out but we are ready to sign a contract and make the down payment for the ice rink.

On Friday, Vandalia Tourism director, Jessica Hampton will be meeting with us. We hope she will provide valuable information for our event (still to be named).

The Week Ahead:
Monday - Guest speakers from Southwestern Electric Cooperative - Bobby Williams and Susan File
Tuesday - Guest Speaker Jessica Hampton
Wednesday-Friday - Thanksgiving vacation

Again, I apologize for the missing Friday Updates. I honestly can't promise that it won't happen again. My sister is still in ICU and we are taking it day by day.
